Indian-origin Oklahoma doctor Neha Gupta, accused of killing daughter, denied bond; judge says charges severe

Indian-origin Oklahoma doctor Neha Gupta was denied bond.

Oklahoma pediatrician Neha Gupta, who was accused of killing her four-year-old daughter Aria Talathi, was denied bond as the judge said the charges against her are severe that the prosecutors have presented strong evidence against her. Gupta remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. She is scheduled to be arraigned on August 7.The 41-year-old doctor went on a vacation to Florida with her daughter and was staying at a short-term rental. Gupta faces first-degree murder charges after she claimed her daughter drowned in the pool on June 27. Investigators found no water in the child’s lungs or stomach. Insteaf, the child had bruising inside her cheeks and lacerations to her mouth — raising suspicion about the role of the mother. Gupta told the cops that they had their dinner around 9 pm though there was no food in the child’s stomach. Gupta said she fell asleep at 12.30 am and woke up around 3 am to find that her daughter was missing. She saw her daughter drowning in the pool and she jumped into the pool to save her. After giving her statement to the police in Florida, she went back to Oklahoma. After the investigators found that there was no food in the dead child’s stomach, they were certain that Dr Gupta played a role in her daughter’s death, and she was arrested at her house in Oklahoma, from where she was extradited to Florida. Gupta’s attorney said Gupta is innocent and the investigation was rushed and circumstantial. Gupta was employed as a pediatrician at OU Health but has since been terminated. “Dr Neha Gupta was suspended from patient care, given notice of termination, and was no longer seeing patients at the health system as of May 30, 2025. She has also been given notice of termination by the university,” the hospital said, noting that she was terminated before the incident took place. Dr Gupta was locked in a bitter custody battle with ex-husband Dr Saurabh Talathi
