ZZ Top’s Frank Beard Takes Leave of Absence Due to Health Issue

ZZ Top’s longtime drummer, Frank Beard, is temporarily stepping away from the band “to attend a health issue.”

In his place,  ZZ Top members Billy F Gibbons and Elwood Francis have recruited longtime tech member, percussionist, and drummer John Douglas to join them on their ongoing “Elevation Tour,”  which is set to run through August.

Douglas previously filled in for Beard in ZZ Top when he underwent an emergency appendectomy in 2002.

The nature of Beard’s current health ailment was not disclosed, however a press statement says he’s “looking forward to a speedy recovery.”
