Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine readily admitted in a new interview he didn’t know anything about Yungblud, but after hearing about the UK singer’s recent high-profile collaborations, the metal veteran advised the rising rocker to “take a break or find something else [musically].”
Mustaine was asked by NME if he came across any of Yungblud’s work, to which he bluntly answered, “No.” When he was told that Yungblud won over Ozzy Osbourne prior to the metal icon’s passing, and collaborated with the likes of Aerosmith and the Smashing Pumpkins in recent months, while also being touted as a savior of rock music, Mustaine issued some advice for the young singer.

“When you say somebody is working with everybody, that to me means they’ve reached a point where they need to either take a break, or find something else [to separate them from the pack],” warned the thrash-metal veteran. “Because you run the risk of your song sounding like the last person’s song, which then sounds like the last person’s song.”

The interviewer then quipped, “So we shouldn’t expect a collaboration with you and Yungblud any time soon…,” with Mustaine replying, “As far as me knowing any young bands or artists that I wanna work with? If I was going to work with anybody right now, I’d keep working with Megadeth.”
Yungblud appears to be doing just fine, as he just won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance for his live version of Black Sabbath’s “Changes” at the “Back to the Beginning” concert. Moreover, his upcoming North American tour sold out in a minute, although tickets are available via StubHub.
Megadeth, meanwhile, are about to launch their farewell tour with a Canadian outing that kicks off on February 15th. Later in 2026, Megadeth will join up with Iron Maiden as support for the latter’s North American tour launching in August. Get tickets here.
