Out-there concept reimagines the LX SUV as a mobile wardrobe and nail bar
41 minutes ago

- Lexus has turned its big LX SUV into the Glam LX concept.
- The one-off build has a full dressing suite in the cargo bay.
- Cabin has a refrigerated makeup store and drop-down mirror.
And now, as Monty Python used to say decades before Lexus was even a thing, for something completely different. No, I mean really different. Women must make up – no pun intended – around half of all drivers, but you’d never believe it from the energy automakers put into making concept cars that appeal to men who long for the great outdoors or an empty racetrack. Now Lexus is righting that wrong with the Glam LX.

Let’s not get bogged down with arguments that some men like wearing makeup and some women don’t, and some women love crushing trails or get thirsty kicks on trackdays. All true, but it’s obvious whose attention the Glam LX is designed to grab, and its not mine and probably not yours. But it grabs it all the same simply because it’s so different.
Wrapped In Spectacle
Starting life as a stock LX, the SUV was covered with a pearl symphony chameleon wrap, fitted with crystal-faceted badging and treated to a pink and white leather interior accented by mohair and silk. That alone would be enough to make the LX turn heads, but in the end it’s the least incredible part of the conversion.
Because tugging open the rear French doors reveals a full dressing suite with custom pullout chairs, and twin Robern illuminated mirrors for tweaking your makeup mid-journey. A retractable privacy screen allows outfit changes at the same time, those outfits chosen from an LED-lit clothing rack or the built-in drawers.

More Than A Makeover
The theme continues inside the cabin area where you’ll find hot tool holders for your hair straighteners, a refrigerated makeup console, LED-lit handbag storage compartment and various storage spots for other stuff men generally don’t understand. It’s all ridiculous, whatever your chromosomal situation, but it’s no more ridiculous than most of the male-oriented concepts like the Lucid Gravity X we see each year are. And you know what, it’s more fun than most of them.
“The Glam LX celebrates the latest chapter of Lexus, one that goes beyond comfort and craftsmanship to connect with our guests’ passions and desire for self-expression,” Lisa McQueen, of Lexus’s marketing department said of the SUV, which was a joint project between the automaker and Complete Customs.
MqQueen also describes it as “a bold statement of Lexus design and innovation applied in a completely unexpected way.”
She’s not wrong, but maybe it’ll inspire other automakers do think along the same lines.
