This 1974 Mercedes-Benz 230 was sold new in California, where it was acquired by the seller in 2018. Refurbishments under current ownership included a repaint as well as rebuilding the carburetor, cleaning the fuel tank, and replacing the headliner, carpets, tires, transmission cooler lines, and assorted power steering, suspension, ignition, cooling, and fuel delivery components. Powered by a 2.3-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, the car is equipped with a sunroof, US-specification headlights, fog lights, power steering, 14″ steel wheels, a cassette stereo, air conditioning, a heater, and brown MB-Tex upholstery. This W115 230 is now offered by the seller with a refurbishment invoice, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s business.
The car was finished in Autumn Beige (430) from the factory, and work in 2023 included repairing dents and removing the trim, bumpers, and front and rear glass before it was repainted in the factory shade. Exterior details include a sliding steel sunroof, US-specification headlights, fog lights, a retractable antenna, and bright trim.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with 185/70 Kumho Solus TA11 tires that were installed in 2023. The car was factory equipped with power steering as well as an independent double-wishbone front suspension and an independent semi-trailing arm rear axle. Braking is provided by power-assisted discs at each corner. A power steering hose and one of the tie rod ends were replaced along with the rear shocks, steering shaft link, and rear stabilizer links in 2023.

The interior was removed during the repaint, and a replacement headliner and carpets were fitted before it was reinstalled. Appointments include front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in brown MB-Tex as well as a cassette stereo, air conditioning, front head restraints, seat belts, and a heater. The left front door pocket is missing, the upholstery is torn at the pocket mounting points, and the right front door pocket is cracked.

VDO instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and an analog clock as well as a combination gauge for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.3-liter M115 inline-four was factory equipped with a Stromberg carburetor. The seller tells us the fuel tank was cleaned during the refurbishment, and an oil change was performed in the fall of 2025. Additional work in 2023 included the installation of a used radiator, rebuilding the carburetor, and replacing the following components:
- Starter
- Thermostat
- Accessory drive belts
- Coolant hose
- Air conditioning compressor pulley
- Heater hose
- Battery cable
- Spark plugs
- Distributor rotor & cap
- Ignition points
- Fuel pump

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The transmission cooler lines and three of the rubber exhaust insulators were replaced in 2023.

Photos of the car during the refurbishment are viewable in the gallery below.
